Soap Scum

I’m back for another shot at poetry month! Haven’t written much other than mediocre code in the past 4 years, but we’ll give this a try. Today’s prompt was to “write a self-portrait poem in which you make a specific action a metaphor for your life”. I  generalized a bit and nothing fancy since my writing is pretty rusty. Enjoy!

Life is like having your mouth washed with soap

Slip of the tongue
That’s all it takes
It changes the trajectory
Of the path in place

The authority figure
Comes down with might
They come bearing justice
They know they’re right

Coffee, biscuits
A staple of the past
Alkali the new normal
May as well fast

But when the moment occurs
With soap on your teeth
You realize that lavender
It tastes kind of neat
