Today’s prompt was to take a book you love, find a line, write a poem based on it then change the title. I chose The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Not to give it away or anything, but my original line was “There is a way to be good again”. Wrote a short ghazal –
A scar is proof, there is a way to be good again
Under the blemish are layers, to be understood again
He who does wrong ought to bring the needle and thread
To suture and knot, so they can be stood again
But where to begin? A laceration so profound
It is obvious, no chance of ever becoming Robin Hood again
To repent, is a mighty task without a playbook at hand
The fire is ignited, and they’ll add firewood again
But the suture alone can not heal the wound
As time is a crucial element, who can return livelihood again
